Virginia Hospital Center Foundation
Senior Director of Development 2018-2022
Marshall served as a leader in a 10-person fundraising team charged with building philanthropic resources for the region’s only independent nonprofit community hospital.

Recruited by a newly appointed foundation president to strengthen the foundation’s relationship with donors, volunteers, and hospital staff. Assisted in shaping the foundation’s ongoing administrative procedures and gift management and policies.

Over the course of four years, assisted in raising more than $30 million in gifts, pledges and planned gift commitments in support of facility enhancement, education for clinical staff and programs targeting underserved communities.

Established the first formal grateful patient program for the hospital. Engaged clinical staff to increase their understanding of the role philanthropy plays in sustaining high-quality patient care. Created materials and processes to facilitate the ability of patients and patient families to express gratitude for their care through philanthropic gifts.

Supported the design and implementation of the foundation’s ongoing direct response program, collaborating with outside counsel as well as foundation staff. Saw significant growth in both donor acquisition and retention.

Supported a range of donor stewardship initiatives including support of major donors in the hospital and the establishment of consistent donor recognition standards and signage.
